Wilderness Resolution goes from Strength to Strength
30 May 2008

The pressure on European Wilderness increases daily. In order to ensure a sustainable future for the remaining wilderness in Europe, it is recognised that support for its protection is required at the highest level. The core purpose of PAN Parks is to create a network of the best managed wilderness protected areas in Europe and ensure the long-term survival of pristine nature while encouraging local communities to flourish.

To achieve this goal and increase awareness about Europe’s wilderness the PAN Parks Foundation together with other international partners is currently lobbying at the European Commission. In cooperation with organizations such as the Europarc Federation, Eurosite, Wild Europe and WWF Europe we have submitted a resolution on wilderness areas to the representative of European Commission, Mr. Ladislav Miko. Following this, IUCN Europe, WCPA and Count-down 2010, Birdlife International - also added their names to the initial Resolution, which significantly increases the importance and validity of this document. In the following two months the wilderness resolution was supported by 56 subjects representing almost 2 million individuals. This includes not only conservation sector [government and NGOs] but also academic and economic sector.
