NJMCDirect – Pay NJ Traffic Ticket Online

NJMCDirect is a website run by the New Jersey Municipal Court that allows you to check the details of your traffic violations and pay for any penalties you may have accumulated. This website saves you from the inconvenience of having to physically appear to the municipal court to resolve complaints. NJMCDirect allows you to conveniently access all the things you need to know about your traffic and parking tickets while guaranteeing quick and secure transactions. It supports most modern updated browsers like Internet Explorer 9.0, 10.0, 11.0, Chrome, and Safari. You can visit the website at www.njmcdirect.com.

How to pay for New Jersey traffic tickets online?

With the NJMCdirect website, paying your traffic tickets has now become hassle-free. You just have to go to the  NJMCDIRECT online ticket payment website, and you can check the details of any existing complaint or pay for your traffic ticket there.

First, have your parking or traffic ticket and license plate number ready. These are required for checking information or paying for your ticket. Upon visiting the portal, you will be asked to enter the court ID, prefix, ticket number, and license plate number.

In case you do not know your ticket number, the New Jersey Municipal Court also has the Municipal Court Case Search website where you can search for the information you need. You just need to prepare at least one of the following: your name, driver’s license number, ticket number, or complaint number. You will then be sent to a webpage where you have to input the Captcha and after that, you are good to go.

Note that you will be charged with a 3% service fee when you make payments via the website. But this is a negligible amount for most people, considering the convenience offered by paying online.

Available payment hours

The NJMCDirect website does not operate 24 hours straight. It only accepts payment during certain hours of the day.

The schedule is as follows (all times are in EST):

  • Monday to Thursday: 4:30 AM to 11:15 PM
  • Friday: 4:30 AM to 10:15 PM
  • Saturday: 4:30 AM to 3:15 PM
  • Sunday: 1:00 PM to 11:15 PM

Even though you can only pay during these times, you can still check the details of your ticket outside these hours.

Payment methods

The website accepts payment from all major credit and debits cards like Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. If you do not have any debit or credit card, there are other available payment methods indicated at the back of your traffic ticket.

Common payment rates for violations

The amount of fine for a speeding ticket depends on how much you exceed the given speed limit. Below are the speeds above the limit and their corresponding penalties:

  • 1-9 miles per hour – $85
  • 10-14 miles per hour – $95
  • 15-16 miles per hour – $105
  • 20-24 miles per hour – $200
  • 25-29 miles per hour – $220
  • 30-34 miles per hour – $240
  • 35-39 miles per hour – $269

The state of New Jersey also has a law on wearing seat belts. This law requires the driver and the passenger in the front seat to wear seat belts. Failure to follow this law results in a fine amounting to $46.

Ticket payment restrictions

You can pay for your traffic tickets and even parking tickets through the website. However, there are some restrictions on which tickets can be paid online and which ones still require your physical presence in court.

You can pay a ticket via the website as long as the officer who issued it did not explicitly tell you that you have to appear in court. Moreover, as long as no warrant has been issued for the ticket or if your ticket is on a Time Payment Order, you can settle it online.

If you encounter any problem or if you are looking for any information not found on the website, you may contact the New Jersey municipal court directly. You can call them at 609-815-2900 or send them an email at webmaster.mailbox@njcourts.gov.
