Which Is The Largest Solar Power Plant In The World?
The world’s largest solar power plant is the Bhadla Solar Park, located in the Rajasthan State of India. Bhadla Solar Park Plant is spread over 5,700 hectares (14,000 acres) and has a capacity of 2245 MW. Bhadla Solar Park, India
The Bhadla Solar Park is based in Rajasthan, India, and is a 2.25GW facility. It’s being developed over the course of 4 phases and is estimated to cost a total of $1.4bn.
Construction began in 2015 and is being created within India’s Ministry of New & Renewable Energy scheme. The plant is estimated to create over 732,000 MWh a year and aims to connect poverty-line households to the grid for better access to electricity.

Golmud Desert Solar Park, China
The Golmud Desert Solar Park in China is the largest reported solar park in the world (October 2022), with a capacity surpassing 2.8 GW AC. It was built in 2011 and is the largest operating CPV facility in the world.
The Golmud Desert Solar Park was officially opened in October 2020 and is also known as the Huanghe Hydropower Hainan Solar Park. It is home to 80 solar plants, and the final capacity is estimated at up to 4 – 5 GW.

Longyangxia Dam Solar Park, China
The Longyangxia Dam in China was completed in 2017 and consists of several smaller power plants located on the Longyangxia Reservoir in Eastern Qinghai. This solar farm stands at roughly 2.0 GW and covers 27 square kilometers.
The budget for this project was supposedly around $836m and has the capacity to create 840 MW in solar energy. There were reportedly almost 4 million solar panels built at Longyangxia in 2017, so it’s likely this number has continued to rise.

Benban Solar Park, Egypt
Benban Solar Park in Egypt consists of 27 blocks and covers 37 square kilometers, producing a rate of 1.3 GW. Based in the Egyptian desert, this solar park is the only current solar farm that is based outside of Asia.
Consisting of 41 individual solar farms, several different companies have developed Benban solar park for a budget of around $4bn. Upon completion, Benban is predicted to be the largest solar photovoltaic park on the planet. The farm was built as part of Egypt’s Nubian Suns Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff program, which hopes to produce 20% of the country’s electricity from sustainable energy sources by 2022.

NP Kunta Solar Park, India
The NP Kunta Solar Park in India is also referred to as the Anantapur Ultra Mega Solar Park and is scheduled for a capacity of 1.2 GW (usable, the full capacity of 1.5 GW). This park occupies an area of 32 square kilometers and was commissioned in May 2016.
This solar park has been promoted by Andhra Pradesh Solar Power Corporation and has experienced many delays in its build. However, it is believed to be operational and is based in two parts, Ananthapuram 1 (1000 MW) and Anantapur 2 (500 MW).

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, Dubai
The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park based in Dubai is the only other solar park based outside of China or India. It currently holds a capacity of 1.03 GW, with a prospective capacity of 5GW. If this proves true, this solar park will one day be the largest in the world.
This solar farm aims to save 6.5 million tCO2e annually, reducing carbon emissions by 16% in 2021.

Jinchuan Solar Park, China
The Jinchuan in Gansu is a solar farm with a capacity of slightly over 1030 MW. It consists of 15 individual solar plants and covers nearly 90 Square.KM in space. It was developed in one phase and was commissioned in 2013.
The cost of this project is estimated to be almost $318m, and the project has been commissioned and developed by Jinchuan Group and JinkoSolar Holding.

Danang Youxiang Solar Park, China
The Danang Ouxiang Solar Farm is based in China and has 13 individual plants within its main farm. It’s expected to double in size over the coming years and currently has a capacity of 1.02 GW.
This solar farm covers over 92 square kilometers in the district of Changji Hui and is one of the newest solar plants built in just 2021.

Pavagada Solar Park, India
The Pavagada Solar Park is based in Karnataka, India. Pavagada Solar Park was supported by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited and has a capacity of 1.0 GW. It covers an area of 80 square kilometers and consists of 19 plants in total.
It is also known as the Shakti Sthala and has a full capacity when complete of 2GW. The total investment in this project is believed to be upwards of $2.5bn and is part of Karnataka’s Solar Policy 2014 – 2021. Construction for the project commenced in 2016 and aims to counterbalance 578,631t of carbon emissions on an annual basis.

Huanghe Qinghai Delingha Solar Thermal Power Project, China
Last on our list is the Haixi Delingha in China, which has a capacity of 0.97 GW. This solar farm is situated in the Haixi Prefecture and is home to at least 40 projects. It is expected to exceed its current capacity and reach over 1GW in the coming years, with an aim to reach upwards of 2 GW in future projects.
Located in the Qinghai Province, this solar farm is aiming to reduce 16.5 million tons of carbon each year. It consists of 3 CSP plants developed in a single phase, and the project cost is estimated at around $55m. Contactors involved in this project included HydroChina International Engineering, and the solar panels were provided by JinkoSolar Holding and Tianwei New Energy.
