"It is time to work on the ground"

A delegation of almost 20 people from Swedish Candidate PAN Park Fulufjällets Nature Reserve enjoyed the hospitality of Italian Abruzzo National Park from 8-13 October. The one-week visit of the Fulufjällets representatives to one of the oldest parks in Europe provided great opportunity to share experience.

PAN Parks named as "the most relevant to Natura 2000"

SECA (Soci鴩 d'Eco-Am鮡gement) has just prepared a publication which lists PAN Parks as one of the two most relevant initiatives to the characteristics of Natura 2000. I talked about the publication's findings and its significance with Zoltán Kun, the Conservation Manager of PAN Parks.

Welcome on board!

"Welcome on board!" was the message of the PAN
Parks Foundation to the participants of the first PAN Parks Candidate Conference, which took place between 18 and 21 June in the Netherlands. Where in the Netherlands? Well, the conference started off in Zwolle, continued on the IJselmeer from Lelystad to Volendam and finally set off from Volendam to end in Amsterdam on the fourth day. The following diary tells the story of the four days of the conference where people from 10 countries came together to take the first steps to develop the real working network of PAN Parks.

Slovak Paradise gains new partners for protection

Slovensky raj National Park today announced its plan to work towards PAN Parks certification, thereby gaining candidacy in a network of Europe's best wilderness protected areas, and pledging commitment to improving conservation and sustainable tourism management.

Forest Fire sparks need to approve zonation in Slovensky raj

Following international co-operation in fighting a forest fire in Slovensky raj National Park in 2000, the spring of 2001 has commenced with a controversial plan to clear valuable affected habitat in proposed core areas of the park under the guise of "sanitation cutting-----". Slovensky raj National Park, with the support of PAN Parks, is demanding ministerial signature on a zoning system agreed to in 1997, which would cease further destruction of an ecosystem that is very fragile but still full of life.

Tourists support conservation of primeval Bialowieza Forest

The conservation organisation WWF in co-operation with the PAN Parks Foundation today launched a new project enabling tourists to help preserve the endangered primeval forest of Bialowieza National Park by booking a green adventure on-line.
