Things to do

Summer activities
Hiking Karhunkierros: It is a 90 km trail and attracts yearly 10.000-15.000 hikers. The Pieni Karhunkierros is only 12 km long and can be walked in one day (starting and ending point at the same place). The Keroharju trail in Northern part of the Park is 17 km long.

Canoeing and kayaking: The region with its lakes and rivers is the excellent environment for canoeing and kayaking. Boats can be rented at different locations.

Rowing in the midnight sun: A special activity during the summer months!

Fly fishing: There are many lakes and rivers with an abundance of fish to catch.

Cycling and horse riding: there are no cycle paths in the park but there are many opportunities in the area. There is only little traffic in the northern areas. Horse riding trails can be found around the National Park too.

Winter Activities
Skiing/snowboarding - Kuusamo and Ruka, south of Oulanka National park are very well developed winter sport destinations with all facilities and services.
- Salla, north of the park, has also slopes and good quality facilities and services. This destination is of smaller scale and is very attractive to families with young children.

Huskytour / reindeer sledging: Husky and reindeer sledging in the winter season is a must-do activity in the region. One day or multiple day treks can be made.

Snowshoe walking / cross-country skiing: This is the perfect way to enjoy the winter landscape.

Icefishing: is possible in the frozen remote lakes. 

Snow mobiling is a popular activity outside the national park.
