Visitors can enjoy numerous awe–inspiring views in the park: gorgeous landscapes, deep caves, steep slopes and canyons, high waterfalls, clear streams.

  • rivers that fall from steep cliffs, which create breath-taking waterfalls for visitors to enjoy
  • centuries-old forests; one of which is the most preserved and imposing kingdom of beech trees in Europe
  • a system of canyons and gorges unique to Bulgaria
  • beautiful sunsets and sunrises; the ancient locals called this mountain area, “the land of the son of the suns”
  • the highest peak of the park: Botev at 2376 m
  • the longest water cave in Bulgaria
  • the highest waterfall in Bulgaria, the 125 m, Raiskoto Praskalo
  • the deepest precipices cave in Bulgaria, Raichovata dupka, 377 meters deep
  • local endemic species


Cultural sights

  • numerous churches and monasteries from the National Revival Period (18-19th century)
  • several monuments dedicated to national heroes
  • a history museum in Troyan housing a rich collection of ceramics, woodcarving and icons typical of the region
  • a history museum in Teteven, where local life and traditions of the 18-19th century are displayed
  • ruins of Roman fortresses, watchtowers, camps and roads, medieval buildings, dairies


Things to do

Summer outdoor activities
Hiking:
There are 670 km of hiking paths throughout the park. 9 marked tourist routes start at the southern gateways, and another 16 marked hiking routes start in the northern side of the park. The international trekking route E-3 passes along the central ridge of the park. The E-3 route has one end at the Atlantic Ocean and the other at the Black Sea.

Spa Resorts: On both sides of the park you can find excellent spa resorts.

Botanical tours and bird watching

Horseback riding: You can hire horses and explore the area from horseback.

Mountain biking: There are different trails and routes for mountain biking in the park and in around the park area with different rate of strain.

Winter outdoor activities
Snow-shoeing: It is a special way to discover the area

Cross country skiing: The hilly area offers great opportunities for cross-country skiing. At some places there are prepared slopes for downhill skiing.

Ice climbing: Special equipment and experience is needed.





Workshops, programmes

  • various local festivals such as the National Fair in the village of Oreshak that attract craftsman and artisans from all over Bulgaria and the world, or the annual Festival of Roses that takes place in the rose picking season, also the Plum and Potato festivals, etc. A must-attend event is the Festival of Humour and Satire held in the town of Gabrovo.
