Fifth season in Soomaa
Will there be a Fifth Season in Soomaa? As winter 2009-2010 brought an extreme amount of snow to most of Europe, lots of people are now asking us whether there will be flooding in Soomaa, and if so, when would it start?
Photo: Aivar RuukelAs each spring is unique, it is difficult to predict what the next fortnight will bring. To keep up with the fluctuation of water level in Soomaa we recommend you check the homepage of Estonian Meteorological and Hydrological Institute: http://www.emhi.ee/index.php?ide=9,654&id=5
The EMHI chart represents the change in water level in real time - purple line shows the height of water measured each day. The Fifth Season could be at its best when the purple line has climbed up to 250 cm.
To get safely acquainted with Soomaa during the flood, we recommend:
• update the information about trails, camping sites and roads to Soomaa before your visit, while calling or writing to NP information centre;
• rent a canoe or a kayak from the companies listed on our web page;
• If planning a trip on your own, then please do find time, to supply yourself with proper maps and other equipment required on water trips.
• the longer routes of Halliste and Raudna river are recommended to those adults, up for significant physical challenge;
• we kindly advise you not to bring pets on a canoe or kayak trip while visiting Soomaa during Fifth Season.
