Sawadee is the greenest tour operator

PAN Parks’ Dutch tour operator partner, Sawadee, has won the Green Feather 2011 for the most sustainable tourism initiative with its campaign promoting the use of tap water. The award is an initiative of the Dutch travel magazine TravMagazine rewarding sustainable entrepreneurs. Sawadee has always been contributing to a better environment respecting nature and local communities which is also underlined by their latest campaign aiming at the reduction of plastic waste.

The travel company realised the problem of the increasing amount of wasted disposable bottles. The numbers are shocking: on average 10 plastic bottles per person are used and thrown away during a trip which equals a total of 75,000 bottles per year. As a solution Sawadee introduced Dopper, a sustainable, practical and fashionable tap water container. Everyone booking a trip with them will receive this bottle thus contributes to the reduction of plastic waste. In most countries where Sawadee travels tap water is not safe to drink, that's why they will try to make sure travellers can refill their Doppers from big bottles in the bus or in the hotel.

In addition to the green initiative a photo contest has been launched. Anyone who has been on a trip with Sawadee can send their best Dopper picture. Every three months Sawadee travelers choose the best entry via Facebook and the winner will receive a €250 travel voucher from the tour operator.

For every single Dopper container Sawadee buys part of the profit goes to Simavi, a public health organisation that operates worldwide. This way not just travellers and environment but citizens of the visited countries benefit too.
