Wilderness protected areas can join the network of certified PAN Parks following verification. These areas represent the best of Europe’s wilderness. They are great wilderness destinations for travellers and best practice examples for conservation professionals and policy makers.

Verification is carried out by a team of independent experts, in accord with PAN Parks Principles, Criteria & Indicators (P&C). The five PAN Parks principles ensure high standards of management for both conservation and sustainable development. Principles allow for objective verification and transparency.

Any European protected area that wishes to achieve PAN Parks certification may apply for verification. Applicant areas should hand in an application package, downloadable in 4 parts below.
